The 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue is out and it features the stunning Kate Upton wearing a Tinsley Transfer!

Makeup artist Joanne Gair contacted Tinsley Studio in 2012 to create custom tattoos for the shoot.  The result can be seen on Alyssa Miller (zipper and clasp) and Kate Upton (top).

Viva Super Bowl Ads!

What Super Bowl 47 boasted not only a surprisingly interesting game but also featured 8 trailers for movies opening in 2013. Out of those 8 films, 4 have tattoos and/or prosthetic transfers created by Tinsley Studio. We are very excited to have been a part of these films and can’t wait until they hit the big screen. Ryan Gosling… need I say more?

The Place Beyond the Pines tells the tales of two different fathers and how their lives intersect over the course of 15 years. This film brings two of today’s biggest male stars Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling, who altered his naturally handsome look to create the character of Luke. In order to achieve this Ryan worked closely with tattoo Artist Ben Sheilds to design his character’s ink. His makeup artist, the talented Leo Won, then contacted Tinsley Studio to turn the designs into our Tinsley Transfers.

What could be better than a movie about Vegas style verses Street style Magicians starring Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi and Olivia Wilde? Nothing, if that movie also includes tattoos and prosthetics designed by Bill Corso and produced by Tinsley Studio. And it does.

Go back in time with us to Los Angeles, 1949 where we find John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) assembling a team of rogue cops intent on taking down Mob Boss Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). “Gangster Squad” directed by Ruben Fleischer and co-starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Patrick and Michael Peña is an action packed, romance laced journey to yesteryear that is sure to leave you cheering.

 

Christien Tinsley re-creates the look of the era as Makeup Designer and Department Head with the film’s makeup effects created by Tinsley Studio, featuring the handsome Ryan Gosling wearing Tinsley Transfers. Gangster Squad opens January 11th.

Olympic Ink

If you have been tuning in to the Summer Olympics this year, you have probably spied dozens of athletes rocking the recognizable multi-colored Olympic rings by now.  It’s like something of a right of passage.

American Swimmer, Ryan Lochte

Both top American rival swimmers, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte have Olympic themed tattoos.  Michael Phelps, who recently won his 19th medal, a gold in the men’s 2x400m, has a tattoo on his right hipbone.  Ryan Lochte’s Olympic tattoo is on the inside of his right arm, highlighted when he performs his dominating backstroke.

Other than the classic five-ring logo, viewers have also seen more personalized ink on the competitors.  Fernanda Silva Rocha, Brazilian women’s handball competitor, (pictured above) has a star on her left calf.

Italian olympic swimmer Federica Pellegrini has nine tattoos all together.  Pictured above is her intricate flower design on her ankle.

Mongolian judo competitor Tsagaanbaatar Khashbaatar wears a tattoo on his chest that features two feet and the word “Champion.”  Being one of the world’s best athletes takes determination, commitment, and some serious confidence.  You must truly believe you are the best, and the slightest bit of doubt can alter your performance.  Perhaps his tattoo is of a past great achievement, and gives him the extra boost to believe in himself to conquer again.

Let’s face it- men want them, women want to be like them!  Pin-ups represent sexiness and feminity while symbolizing female empowerment, and the women look damn good doing it.  Pin-up art continued to grow in popularity and sophistication through the 1950′s.

Tinsley Transfers features their own line of vintage designs.  From overtly sexy, to adorable sailor, these vintage pin-ups are in trend.  With 50s Mad Men inspired style sweeping the nation, you can join this craze with these sexy designs!

You can’t talk about pin ups without mentioning Bettie Page.  She was featured in the earlier editions of Playboy and Hugh Hefner says, “She had a saucy innocence that is both contemporary and provocative, and also nostalgic.” The Bunny takes an influence from the traditional playboy uniform, complete with a cottontail.

Another one of the most popular, early glamour girls was Betty Grable, whose poster was ubiquitous in the lockers of G.I.s during World War II.  Today, this movement has seen another wave of women whose personal style derives from the 50s, such as Dita Von Teese.  This current day beauty has not only sparked a reinvention of the burlesques scene, but inspired a number of other sexy modern pin-up girls.  With a hint of rockabilly, and a touch of free spirit, this care-free sense of sexuality the women give off is intriguing.

These temporary tattoos truly embrace the pin-up style- exuding confidence, sex appeal, and beauty.  Man or woman, sporting these tattoos adds that extra funk to any look.  Don’t you want to have (be) One Fine Dame?
